Eureka is the phantasmagorical and obscure poem that the multifaceted American genius Edgar Allan Poe bestowed the world in 1848. It is the forbidden fruit of the search for Truth, the Book with which its author finally revealed his very own cosmogony. Poe, never a stranger to science and science fiction, managed with Eureka to compose a true cosmology, to span the whole of human scientific knowledge and to astound posterity with his mystifying predictions. The Big Bang, a cyclical and dynamic universe, the Big Crunch, inflation, accelerated expansion, anthropic principle, a solution to Olbers’ paradox, the multiverse; these are all theories that appeared in Eureka decades earlier than the scientific publications who would eventually prove their legitimacy. The fact that Poe was a visionary is nothing new, and yet this book will amaze you and keep amazing you at every turn of the page. It is for these reasons and for the sake of all the curious minds of the 21st century that we are now republishing it in its original, complete form.
Ruggero Condò, essayist and novelist, holds a degree in both Geological Sciences from “La Sapienza” University of Rome and Philosophy — with a curriculum in History and Philosophy of Science — from “Carlo Bo” University of Urbino.
